Blue Knights Colorguard
Audition Information

Audition camp will include evaluation in dance and equipment skills. Members wishing to audition for a weapon spot should bring their own rifle or sabre. Flags will be provided, however you may choose to use your own. Some weapons will be available as well, however there may not be enough for everyone. Comfortable "tight" fitting clothes should be worn throughout the weekend.

Saturday will begin with a dance class. Students will be taught basic warm-ups and technique exercises. A short combination piece will be taught for the students to be evaluated in large and small groups.

The evening will be on flag basics, warm-ups, and technique. This will be followed again by a short routine where the students will be evaluated in large and small groups.

Sunday will begin again with a dance class, this time focusing on stretch techniques and strengthening exercises. Students should know this is a part of their daily workout during the winter months between camps, to get into shape for the summer. This will be followed by a review of the previous day's routine.

The afternoon will be spent on weapon basics, and technique exercises. Students will be evaluated on weapon skills based on these exercises. More in-depth weapon work will be done at the following camp (December) to finalize the weapon lines. Students should realize that the guard is chosen based on knowledge of dance and flag skills FIRST. No one will be a weapon without mastering flag and body.

YOU DO NOT HAVE TO SPIN A WEAPON TO MAKE THE GUARD!

At some point during the weekend, everyone will have a short interview with the staff. At that point any concerns, comment, and schedule conflicts may be addressed.

Video auditions will be accepted until December 15th. However, it is recommended that everyone interested attend one or both of the audition camps. Final auditions will be the December camp.

We at the Blue Knights understand many students are involved with winterguards, and we do not expect you to miss your winterguard rehearsals or shows to be a part of the corps. However, local students should plan to be at camp when they are free from those responsibilities. All members are required to attend the April and May camps, as well as all summer rehearsals. Conflicts with any of these commitments should be addressed at your audition.
